The REF630 IEC Feeder protection and measurement and control unit is a member of the 630 Protection and Measurement and Control Unit product family of ABB Relion. The 630 series devices are characterized by functional scalability and flexible configurability. The REF630 is used as primary protection for overhead lines and cable feeders in neutral, resistance, compensated or directly grounded distribution networks. The units are available in four preconfigurations designed to meet typical feeder protection and measurement and control requirements, as well as for open/closed loop feeder applications, radiant overhead/hybrid line feeder applications, ring/mesh feeder applications, and segmented busbars. In addition to these, preconfiguration can easily meet the needs of specific applications with freely optional features. The REF630 IEC feeder protection and measurement and control devices are available in single and double bus configurations, each bus configuration with one or two circuit breakers and multiple switching device configurations. The unit also supports a large number of manual and electric isolation switches and ground switches. The REF630 can therefore be used to control many types of switchgear. The REF630 IEC feeder protection and measurement and control device fully supports the substation IEC61850 communication standard and covers both vertical and horizontal communication, including GOOSE messages with switching and analog signals. The REF630 also supports DNP3 (TCP/IP) and IEC 60870-5-103 (serial port) communication protocols. Its supported communication protocols, including IEC 61850, provide seamless connectivity to various substations and SCADA systems.
